‘Satyagraha’ against Citizenship Bill

The 70 organisations, led by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), have announced that they will launch a statewide “Satyagraha” on November 26 as part of their ongoing protest against the “anti-Assamese” Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Reacting on the statements made by some top BJP leaders recently, social activist Manjit Mahanta said Assam does not belong to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma or Rajen Gohain and as such, their decision or will to bring in more foreigners from other countries into Assam would never be accepted.

The “Satyagraha” will start from Tinsukia, Nagaon, Sivasagar and Goalpara on November 26. On November 27, it will start from Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Dhubri, Kamrup, Jorhat, Sonari, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Golaghat, Morigaon, Udalguri, Cachar and Guwahati. Finally on November 28, it will take place in Hojai.

The members of the organisations accused the BJP of using “Hindutva” in Assam to gain power. “But since they are failing, they are now using the issue of Ram Mandir as a new card,” they said.
