The Supreme Court has dropped five out of the 15 documents of National Register of Citizens (NRC) from the modalities of Standard Operating Procedure for dealing with claims and objections. The court will hear the issue on October 23.
The SC has announced that the claims and objections for inclusion of names in draft NRC will begin on September 25 and those who missed out can appeal based on ten documents. The period for filing of the claims and objections will remain open for 60 days.
The documents kept on hold are 1951 NRC, pre-1971 voters’ lists, citizenship certificate, refugee registration certificate and ration cards.
