The Supreme Court on Wednesday has extended the deadline for filing claims and objections in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) from December 15 to December 30.
The re-verification of the claims and objection has been postponed from February 1 to February 15.
It is worth mentioning that only ten lakh people have applied for the claims and verifications. The Assam Government has appealed to the SC to extend the deadline for filing the same and a hearing was held today.
The State Government had also appealed to the apex court to make available the Application Receipt Number (ARN), in order to lessen number of objections filed in the ongoing NRC updation process.
