Workers of the Krishak Shakti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) headed by their leader Akhil Gogoi on Monday took to the streets on Monday to protest against the ‘Panchayat and Rural Development (PnRD) scam’.
As per allegations, senior BJP Ministers such as Naba Kr. Doley and Chandramohan Patowary have appointed family members or close-ones to the Government posts. During the ensuing hue-and-cry in the state, peasant leader Akhil Gogoi has demanded that the appointment process is declared null-and-void and that exams be conducted again.
Addressing the media from front of the PnRD Commissioner's Office at Panjabari which is the site of the protest, Gogoi said: “An Additional Chief Secretary has been appointed for the inquiry to cover up this issue. The Government thinks that once the election model code of conduct, Assamese people will forget about the issue, but the KMSS will not forget it.”
Gogoi has further warned the PnRD department that if the appointments are not canceled, the officials of the PnRD Department will have to rot in jail. “If these appointments are not canceled, prepare to rot in jail”, he said.
It is to be mentioned that an FIR has been lodged against Naba Kr. Doley at Dispur Police station in connection to the PnRD scam.
