SIVASAGAR: The Sivasagar district administration has clamped Section 144 CrPC to enforce COVID-19 protocol in the district in view of the surge in cases of COVID-19 positive in the state.

Sivasagar district magistrate Bishnu Kamal Bora vide an order issued today has promulgated Section 144 making it compulsory to wear face masks by all individual in public places, work places, markets, public vehicles etc and practice of social distancing.

Further, spitting in public places has been strictly prohibited.

Moreover, all government, non-government establishments, business establishments, shops, hotels and restaurants etc will have to keep provisions for thermal scanning along with sanitisers and hand wash facility at the entry points.

Any person violating the measures will be liable to be proceeded against as per the provisions of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, besides legal action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, and other legal provisions as applicable.

Meanwhile, the Hailakandi district administration today declared Nobin Sunapur under Algapur Revenue Circle as a containment zone after one Mazibur Rahman Laskar, 40, of the locality tested COVID-19 positive.

All activities inside the containment zone have been strictly prohibited barring essential services.

Rahman who has no travel history has been admitted at the SK Roy Civil Hospital. Currently there are five active cases in the district.

The administration has decided to carry out random testing at market places, bus stands and pharmacies. Patients at the OPDs will have to undergo rapid antigen test.

The administration has urged the people to wear masks, maintain social distance and wash hands frequently in view of some cases detected in the district and spurt in COVID cases in some states of the country.

Deputy commissioner Megh Nidhi Dahal held a review meeting with the health officials and functionaries at his office conference hall in Hailakandi today.
