GUWAHATI: Prohibitory measures under the Section 144 of the CrPc have been clamped in the West Police district of Assam as "some specified and unspecified persons or groups of persons or organizations/associations are likely to disturb the normal functioning of offices, movement of public and flow of traffic", said an official order.
Nabaneet Mahanta, Deputy Commissioner of Police stated that such groups of persons or organizations or associations are planning or carry out agitations or demonstrations or shouting of slogans in parts of West Police District, Guwahati which may cause a breach of peace and public order and may cause disturbance/interruption of peaceful movement of the public, traffic and also normal functioning."
West Guwahati covers areas under Bharalumukh, Fatasil Anbari, Gorchuk, Jalukbari, and Azara police station areas in the city.

The city police has banned the assembly of more than 5 persons, agitation, demonstration, procession and shouting slogans in the entire West Police District.
"Any person aggrieved by this order is, however, at liberty to appear before me for filling written objection, if any, for cancellation/modification of the order," the order further added.
