Reacting to a breach of public peace and tranquility, the Hailakandi district administration has clamped Section 144 CrPC in the entire district with immediate effect.
In order to this effect was issued by Hailakandi District Magistrate Keerthi Jalli on Monday.
The order prohibits the assembly of five or more persons in public places, taking out rallies, staging "dharnas" and making "inflammatory speeches".
The decision to clamp Section 144 has been taken following reports that some miscreants and groups of people of Ainakhal and Monacherra gaon panchayats and adjoining areas under Lala Police Station, are trying to indulge in violence and create communal tension.
The order warns that anyone violating the order will be punished under various provisions of the IPC.
