Amid calls of boycott from various organizations across the Northeast, security measures have been beefed up in the state as Guwahati prepares to celebrate Republic Day at Khanapara’s Veterinary playground.
The playground has been adorned with the tricolor of the nation as it is the venue for the central programme to be held on January 26, which is expected to be graced by thousands.
Some of the measures which have been taken include extra scrutiny being paid to out-of-station people travelling to the state, deployment of troops along Assam’s borders with Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, etc.
It is to be mentioned that several groups have called for a boycott of Republic Day celebrations. The Nagaland Students’ Organization in Nagaland, PRISM in Mizoram, the umbrella rebel-group Cor-com Committee in Manipur are some of the organizations calling for a complete boycott of the Republic Day celebrations.
