Guwahati, August 10, 2019:

With the inputs of a 12- member team of the United Liberation Front of Asom- Independent (ULFA-I) cadres trained in Myanmar to have entered into the state of Assam ahead of the Independence Day celebration, the state police have tightened the security.

Addressing the media, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Deepak Kumar said, “Based on the inputs received after the Zoo Road incident, we came across the 12 members team of ULFA-I trained in Myanmar. So the security situations have been tightened in the state. There are records that these militants plan for terror activities during I- Day or Republic Day, so all the top cops of the state along with all the personnel of all rank have been deployed to check and detect all the possible threat zones.”

He added, “We are carrying out search operations including door-to-door search in all the possible hide-outs. The bordering areas are being highly monitored.”

The Police Commissioner also added that civil society members have been asked to alert any suspicious activities going around them.

It is to be mentioned that ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, the Assam Police have been successful in nabbing many ULFA-I linkmen from the state. Today also, the police nabbed three linkmen from Sivsagar district of Assam.
