GUWAHATI: The selling of zarda/ pan masala/ gutkha/ sikhar etc in any shop within the Kamrup district has been banned.
Yesterday DC, Kamrup Kailash Karthik N, has issued an order under section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting the storage, distribution, and selling of the above mentioned items within the district with an immediate effect.
The order shall remain in force until further order.
It is in line with the Assam government's order to implement the Assam Health (Prohibition of Manufacturing, Advertising, Trade Storage, Distribution, Sale and Consumption of Zarda, Gutkha, Panmasala, etc. containing Tobacco and or Nicotine Act, 2013.

Consumption of the items mentioned is antisocial and almost a menace to society.

Therefore,to prevent such acts, an order has been issued, and all circle officers, as well as the Superintendent of Police for the district, will ensure that the order is strictly enforced through all OCs of Police Stations and ICs of Outpost within the district.
The order further states that anyone who is dissatisfied with the order has 15 days from the date of issue to appear in front of the DC court.
