Senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Brindaban Goswami has been tested positive for COVID-19. His wife Labanya Goswami has also been infected with the deadly virus. Both Goswami and his wife have been shifted to Guwahati for treatment. Assam Health & Family Welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made all necessary arrangements for their treatment in Guwahati.
It may be mentioned that Assam on Thursday recorded 3,054 new COVID-19 cases. 3,054 people tested COVID-19 positive out of the 48,846 tests done in the state. The positivity rate for the day stood at 6.25 percent. With the addition of the new cases, the tally has reached 11,8333.

735 cases were reported from Kamrup (Metro), 198 from Dibrugarh, 192 from Cachar, 176 from Hojai. On the other hand, seven people succumbed to the deadly disease on Thursday.
The deceased are Lakhan Gowala (55) & Nirmala Gogoi (43) of Dibrugarh, Romen Borthakur (54) of Sivasagar; Bimala Nanda Das (80) & Jugal Kishore Das (34) of Kamrup (Metro) Priyanath Das (58) of Barpeta & Kabita Barman (33) of Nalbari.
Thursday’s victims include Bimalananda Das, husband of renowned Assamese actress Chetana Das who passed away in Guwahati. Das died at 1.56 pm at the GNRC hospital in Guwahati.
The renowned Assamese actress Chetana Das along with her husband Bimalananda Das had tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus. The duo had been admitted to the GNRC hospital on August 27. Initial reports said that both husband and wife are in a “stable” state. Later his oxygen saturation came down to 52 percent. Das was immediately shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was given plasma therapy. Battling with his life for over a week, Das finally succumbed to the disease on Thursday.
