Separated From Minor Children, Mother Languishes Inside Assam Detention Campseparated

Guwahati, June 10, 2019:

Life for Doboka’s Chhanda Rani Paul inside detention camp in Tezpur is no less than hell. She has been separated from her two children - 9-year old son Dishanu and 3-year old daughter Abhinanda. The reason – she has got a ‘D’ voter tag from Foreigners Tribunal in Nagaon.

Despite being an Indian citizen, Chhanda has been languishing in detention camp at Tezpur for the last 19 months.

Hailing from Lumding, Chhanda was married to Dulal Paul of Doboka ten years back.

Chhanda could not furnish her documents in time after receiving the ‘D’ voter notice. When she was sent to detention camp, Abhinanda was only one year old. The three-year old daughter can’t even recognise her mother now after a long period of being separated from the mother.

Chhanda’s husband Dulal along with their daughter Abhinanda visited Tezpur detention camp to have a glimpse of her but returned with a broken heart.

Chhanda’s family members are moving from pillar to post to get her released from the detention camp but in vain.

There are many Chhandas, many Madhubalas who are languishing in the detention camps of Assam despite being Indians for no fault of them. Their only fault -- they are poor and ignorant.
