Guwahati, November 7, 2018:

On Wednesday, a herd of at least 70 elephants invaded several villages in Numaligarh and destroyed several acres of cropland.

Locals stated that over the past few weeks there have been regular invasion of the herd to the villages. There were several reported attack on locals as well.

However, on the jumbo invasion no one was injured but several acres of paddy plantations were destroyed.

The villages that were attacked are Buragohain Khat, Rangbong, Kuwani Dholaguri, Miripathar, Dholakhat and other nearby villages.

The villagers are spending sleepless nights as they are in fear of being attacked by elephants and losing their lives.

Currently the forest department is trying to chase the elephants back to the forest.
