Assam DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta said Sharjeel will be kept in Assam for a few more days for interrogation. During investigation, all could not be revealed, the DGP said, adding that many of the allegations against Imam, including a nexus of intellectuals and media personalities from Assam supporting the controversial scholar, were being investigated during the ongoing interrogation.

It needs mention here that Sharjeel Imam, one of the key organisers of Shaheen Bagh protests in New Delhi had allegedly raised ‘cut-off-Assam’ slogans.

While addressing a gathering in Delhi, he was quoted as saying, “If five lakh people are organised, we can cut off the Northeast from India permanently. If not, at least for a month. Throw such amount of rubbish on railway tracks and roads that it takes the Air Force a month to clear it. Cutting off Assam (from India) is our responsibility. Only then they (the government) will listen to us.”

A team of Assam police had brought Sharjeel Imam to Guwahati from Delhi via Dibrugarh bound Brahmaputra mail. The Assam police had taken him to Guwahati amid tight security.
