Details have emerged that a delegation comprising of North East Students’ Union (NESO) and All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has met Uddhab Thackaray, the chief of the Hindu nationalist Shiv Sena party to garner support against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. The meeting was held at Matoshree in Mumbai. It is to be mentioned that Uddhab Thackaray’s son, Aditya Thackaray, was also present during the talks.
As per sources, the Shiv Sena has assured NESO and AASU that they will oppose the Bill tooth and nail in the Parliament. The Shiv Sena has also assured that they will hold talks with other parties as well and try to convince them to oppose the Bill. Further, they have clarified that the Shiv Sena stands with the people of the Northeast and they are not alone in their fight against the controversial Bill.
It is to be mentioned that the Bill is likely to be raised on February 12 in the Rajya Sabha under the guise of a ‘supplementary Bill.’
