Guwahati: In December 2019, a massive protest took place in Assam opposing the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019. During this protest, at least five persons were martyred including Guwahati's Sam Stafford.
Over the days, Sam who was allegedly killed in police action had become a name everyone knew and often activists are seen visiting his house. With this going on, and even after two years, he is still to get justice. Sam's father, Biju Stafford has now claimed that he feels Sam's death to be political. "Sam was forgotten by those who once lined up at our house. We feel that his death has gone in vain. It seems that everything is just politics and people had used Sam just for their political gains", he added.
He also added that even Akhil Gogoi does not respond to his calls. "Every time I call him, his PA picks up the phone and says that he is not here and even after I tell them that I am Sam's father, they hardly give any response", he added.
He also claimed that now no one takes stock of their situation and how they are living. He said that people were shooting over Sam's shoulders to gain their benefits.
Sam Stafford, a class IX student died in suspected police firing on December 12, 2019, during the anti-CAA protests.
