SILCHAR: Former Assam assembly deputy speaker and Silchar sitting MLA Dilip Kumar Paul today resigned from the Bharatiya Janata party after being denied a party ticket for the 2021 assembly elections.

The BJP has pitched Dipayan Chakraborty, a close aide of Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy, instead of paul in this year's elections.

The two-time MLA Paul was unanimously elected as the deputy speaker of the Assam Assembly on June 3, 2016. He, however, resigned on May 8, 2018.

After resigning from the party Paul accused Roy of ‘dividing’ the BJP for cheap political gains.

The former deputy speaker of the Assam assembly also accused Roy of being part of some nefarious syndicates in Barak Valley.
