GUWAHATI: The Sipajhar District Administration has carried out an eviction drive in No. 1 and No. 3 Dhalpur with an aim to build a self-reliant Assam through agricultural farming in that area by freeing lands from illegal encroachers.
The administration to run eviction drive in a total of 7,000 bighas of lands in those areas.
Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary and Mangoldoi MP Dilip Saikia has said, "The area was divided into six zones for eviction but since a few people have appealed in the Supreme Court and the drives could not be carried out in all places. Already 500 youths have started work in the Gorukhuti area. Gorukhuti project will be kick-started very soon. As many as 30 tractors have started ploughing work."
Khumtai BJP MLA Mrinal Saikia blamed Congress for illegal encroachment of land and said that Congress used to establish people wherever they find a free space.

Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika informed that in 1,300 bighas of lands agricultural works have started already. Youths involved in this project were given proper training.
Dilip Saikia also informed that after the administration's notice a few sections of people have vacated the place and shifted to where the government has facilitated them but many did not vacate the zones yet and hence administration had to carry out an eviction drive.
The eviction drive was carried out in 2,650 bighas of lands in No. 1 Dhalpur and in No. 3 Dhalpur it was carried out in 85 bighas of lands.
