Sit-in demo by scribes in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar (Assam), Sept 1, 2018:

The Journalists’ Union of Assam and the Kokrajhar Press Club on Saturday carried out an hour-long sit-in demonstration near the office of Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Kokrajhar demanding the protection of freedom of press and independent journalism.

Journalists from different media houses took part in the protest demonstration holding placards. They submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Mod and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the DC.

One of the journalists, Harisankar Thakur, said attacks were being frequently carried out on journalists in the country. It seems the journalists have lost the freedom of the press and independent journalism, he said.
