In a sensational incident, smuggled timber worth several lakhs of rupees have been seized in Assam’s Chirang district. A team of Sidli police seized two trucks laden with the smuggled timber at Bamungaon-Garlabari road during a late-night raid conducted on Friday night.
Police suspect that the logs were illegally cut from nearby forests and were being smuggled. But the authorities were unable to apprehend any of the suspects as they fled before police arrived at the area.
The timber along with the two trucks have been taken to Sidli Police station.
