Sons of the Soil had to stand with Bangladeshi Intruders: APW

Guwahati, September 17, 2019:

The Assam Public Works (APW) on Tuesday said that sons of the soil had to stand alongside the illegal intruders coming from Bangladesh due to the NRC.

The APW in a press statement said that the Koch, Rabha, Gogoi, Rajbangshi, Bodo, Tiwa, Mishing, Karbi, Deuri etc. are the sons of the soil but they too had to stand alongside the illegal intruders coming from Bangladesh in that queues.

The APW demanded an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and proper verification of the expenditure of the allocated funds which is Rs 1600 crores approx by the Government.

They further added the ED should investigate if there were any manipulations and corruptions by some individuals.

The statement also read that Lately, it is seen that some pro humanist groups and activists at the national and at the state level are becoming increasingly active vocally on behalf of the people, under the pretence of human rights, whose names are excluded from the NRC published on 31/08/1019.

The APW added, “Let us be very clear on the issue that as these people who illegally entered into the territory of our land (excluding the names of proper citizens of our country) have done this, they must be punishable under the ongoing laws of the land. So, at any cost, we will not accept any kind of special privilege given to those people under the pretence of human rights.”

It added that these are the very same people who have been continuously violating the rights of the people of Assam since 1971. These are the very same people, illegally living in Assam, who has been violating the political and fundamental rights, and consequently creating a kind of existential crisis for the people of Assam.

They added, “We always wanted that the indigenous people of Assam, the sons of the soil, to be included in the NRC in a very smooth and easier manner. But, the reality is very unfortunate and uncalled for that the indigenous people of Assam living in their own land standing in the queues to submit the required papers, and in addition to that, to go through a personal interrogation to include their names in NRC.”

They added The Koch, Rabha, Gogoi, Rajbangshi, Bodo, Tiwa, Mishing, Karbi, Deuri etc. are the sons of the soil too had to stand alongside the illegal intruders coming from Bangladesh in that queues. The citizens of this country, whose ownership of the land is their birthright, too had to submit papers to prove their citizenry of India.

Even after there are so many ways and possibilities to include the names of the indigenous people into NRC in easier manner, many names local people remained excluded in the final list.
