With only few hours left till Christmas, the St. Joseph’s co-Cathedral Church in Guwahati city has been preparing for the festival in full swing from 16 December onwards.
As one of the most significant celebrations for the Christian community is the commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the church will conclude their ‘Christmas Novena 2019’ tonight. The ‘Christmas Novena’ that commenced on December 16, consisted of prayer services and confessions everyday from 5:30 PM.
The in-charges of this nine-day prayer service were Spirituality Centre, St. Mary’s Convent, Daughters of St. Paul (DSP), among others.

Fr. Vincent Xalxo, Parish Priest, St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral Church informed the InsideNE team that the Christmas Novena for the Christmas Eve will be followed by Christmas Vigil Mass at 10:30 pm, which will be presided over by Rev. Fr. John Moolachira, Archbishop of Guwahati.
It is expected that the church will be completely packed from, with people offering prayer services and the singing of Christmas carols.
“The Christmas day Mass, which is scheduled for tomorrow will began from 9 AM and will be presided over by Januaris S. Sangma, the Provincial of Guwahati Province.”, Fr. Vincent informed us.
Fr. Vincent adds that singing of Christmas carols usually begins from 1 December, but this time, the carols were only held once, on 9 December due to the curfew that was imposed in the city amid the protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act.
