Guwahati, December 7, 2018:

In what can be termed as a tragic incident, a striped hyena that was recently brought at the Assam State Zoo from Ranchi’s Bhagwan Borsa Biological Park died in Thursday.

Tejas Mariswamy, Zoo DFO speaking on the issue said that the hyena succumbed to "stress-related ailments". He was in the critical care for the past few days as he was in coma.

Since he was a new inmate in the zoo, he was in quarantine for observation.

It may be mentioned that the animals brought from other place are usually kept in quarantine in order to prevent the spread of any possible disease and to check the animal's fitness as well, usually consisting of the maximum known incubation period of the suspected disease.

It may be mention that the hyena was rescued from Jharkhand and was kept at the Ranchi zoo.
