Guwahati, August 8, 2019:

The Supreme Court will be hearing the last session of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) at 3:30 pm on Thursday.

The apex court today will suggest measures to implement the two main issues of the Citizenship Act in the final draft of NRC.

The final draft of the NRC will be published on August 31, as directed by the Supreme Court of India.

It is to be mentioned that the as per the norms of the Citizenship Act, children born before December 3, 2004 to parents of one of them being Indian citizen are considered to be Indian. On the other hand the same Act stated that those born post December 3, 2004 will not be considered as an Indian citizen even if one of the parents is Indian.

Meanwhile, NRC State Coordinator, Prateek Hajela also sought directions to the prevailing issue of the Citizenship Act.
