The Supreme Court of India has May 31 as the deadline for the publication of the final draft of National Register of Citizen (NRC). The apex court has asked the government to complete the verification process soon and come out with the final draft of NRC by May 31.Earlier, State Coordinator, NRC, Assam Prateek Hajela had sought one month more time to complete the process. The Assam government had also sought more time for the verification citing the Panchayat elections but the Supreme Court asked the state government to hold Panchayat election without hampering the NRC process. The Registrar General of India had also requested for an Additional Coordinator to work alongside Prateek Hajela but the Supreme Court rejected the plea.
Talking to INSIDENE, All Assam Students Union Advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya welcoming the Supreme Court ruling asserted that no names of Bangladeshi should be included in the NRC.
