TARUN GOGOI: AICC DID NOT TAKE MUCH INTEREST IN THE NORTH EAST

After the Congress party’s dismal performance in the assembly elections in Tripura and Nagaland, former Assam chief minister in an exclusive interview with INSIDENE said that the poll debacle is a result of the All India Congress Committee not taking much interest in the two states. The three times chief minister also termed the Congress’s performance as most disappointing. He also said that the Congress is responsible to some extent as it did not take much interest in the states. The veteran leader lamented that the once active Congress Coordination Committee has now become non functional. On being asked about the grand old party’s prospects in Nagaland, Mr Gogoi said that he knew it from before that the party would not perform well in that state and so he refrained from going to the state for campaigning. The octogenarian leader said that Meghalaya has never seen a stable government. He pointed out that even leaders like Purno  A Sangma could not complete five years in office as the chief minister. It was only Mukul Sangma who remained the chief minister for a period of eight years in the matrilineal state.
