GUWAHATI: Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is on "total life support" and his condition is "very very critical." The Minister said that doctors' efforts will not be enough and that the 86-year-old will require a divine intervention to make a recovery.
The Health Minister, who is at the Hospital to take stock of the veteran Congress leader's health, today said that several of the veteran's organs have already failed, although his brain is functioning.

"There is slight function in his brain and reflex action in his eyes. Barring this, most of his organs have stopped functioning altogether.There is nothing that doctors can do and now, blessings of the almighty will also be needed to bring him back from this stage", he said, "adding that his heart is working because a pacemaker has been fitted.
"Yesterday, his laboratory results were good. However, as soon as the dialysis was over, his situation again returned to the same state, added Sarma.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has released a statement in which he wished for the veteran's speedy recovery.
It needs mention here that Tarun Gogoi tested positive for the virus on August 25, and was admitted to the GMCH the next day. Gogoi was treated for 20 days and finally tested negative. Gogoi's existing co-morbidities and advanced age had made recovery slow.
He was once again admitted in the same hospital on September 24 following drop in his oxygen level, and was discharged in the last week of October.
