GUWAHATI: 3-time former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi's mortal remains have finally reached the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati's Panjabari area, where thousands upon thousands of admirers have reached to pay their last tributes to the popular leader.
After brief halts at his official residence, the Assam Secretariat, and the Assam Congress headquarters, around 6:40 PM in the evening, the mortal remains were taken to the cultural institution on the wishes of his family members. According to Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Ripun Bora, former CM's son Gaurav had reportedly conveyed that the remains of the Congress stalwart be kept at the Kalakshetra.
From 6 am in the morning to 6 pm in evening tomorrow, people of the state shall be able to pay "shraddhanjali" to the deceased Congressman.
According to reports, K C Venugopal and Jitendra Singh -- prominent national leaders -- will be arriving soon. Former Congress President is also expected to arrive to attend the last rites ceremony of the deceased leader.

Meanwhile, the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner has said that the government has not found a proper place to cremate the Congress leader.
Lashing out at this, Assam Congress President Ripun Bora said, "As Gogoi’s family wants to perform the last rites in Guwahati, the government should allot a plot for the cremation ground. I urge the government to allot a plot of land for the cremation.”
