Teachers have to instil self-respect of mother tongue in students: Dr. Amalendu Chakraborty

AMINGAON: “The real teacher is a real artist. Just as an artist removes the defective parts in an art work and makes it beautiful, similarly, a real teacher can also make a good human by correcting the negative aspects seen amongst the students with advice and affection,” said Dr Amalendu Chakraborty, the Vice-Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University while attending as Chief Guest of the 60th Teachers' Day celebration organized jointly by the District Administration and Kamrup District Education Department in the office Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kamrup.

Starting his speech with a verse of Rigveda, the eminent educationist said that only teachers can light up the hearts of the students by wiping the darkness of ignorance. Only parents and teachers can think of a loser to their children and students in the world of victory. That is why they are admirable. They always want their children, students to rise above them. If students can be developed harmoniously with intellectual, intuitive and artistic mind of the teachers, it becomes a balanced education. In this way, the teacher must also instil self-respect in the minds of the students for their mother tongue while imparting education. Because the most believable and knowledgeable person for the students is their teacher. So the teacher community should instil some kind of respect in the minds of the students instead of just imparting some information. Because this respect will light a fire of curiosity in their minds. And then the students will become interested in acquiring new knowledge on their own. Further Dr Chakraborty said that the teachers have to make themselves role models in order to impart knowledge harmoniously in the minds of students. In doing so they must always teach them with the idea of 'we will gather knowledge together' with a sense of love.

Presiding over the meeting, Kamrup DC Kailash Karthik N said that the role of a teacher in everyone's life is very much influential. He also said that today a big challenge for the teachers is to cope up the students in their present status who had been away from school for nearly two years and promoted to higher classes.

Sri karthik also said that in the midst of this challenge, use of the promising aspects of the new education policy will benefit in the growth of education in the district and will help to establish Kamrup as an ideal district in the field of education within the state. He also mentioned that Teachers' Day is the best time to resolve for it. DC Karthik also urged all present to place their ideas and suggestions for the educational transition of the district which adorned with almost all kinds of higher educational institutions and assured the meeting that action would be taken on the basis of their advices.

The third issue of e-magazine 'Guru Barta' was launched by DC Karthik while the e-souvenir 'E-Kamrupika' published in line with Teachers' Day was launched by Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge of district education department Manali Jain. Saraswati Vandana and chorus performed by teacher Manashi Deka and the officers of the Samagra Siksha, Kamrup respectively were other interesting events of the meeting.

District Education Officer Apurba Thakuria delivered the welcome speech of the meeting with a floral tribute to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. In the context of the speech Thakuria said that the main objective of observing Teachers' Day is Guru Vandana and to show respect to the teachers. He further said that this holy day is a right time to resolve for creation of an atmosphere for the teachers who play a major role in shaping the life of the students, where they can work smoothly. If such an environment can be created, the teachers of the district will be able to help the children of the district to move forward in the path of light and thus help in the intellectual transition of the district, state and the world as a whole.

Today's meeting was attended by Professor KU Sarathia, Guwahati IIT; joint director of health department Gunindra Dev Sharma, Dr Tapan Dutta, lecturer, Boko College, Tarani Haloi, lecturer, North Guwahati College, district social welfare officer Rubul Sharma along with officials from various departments, eminent citizens and teachers of the district.

In addition to the meeting, a virtual cultural programme titled 'Rang-Birang' amongst the teachers of the district and a seminar on steps to be taken in the academic transition of the district in future was also organized.

It may be mentioned here that the country has been celebrating National Teachers' Day on 5th of September, the birth day of Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the Second President of India, since 1962.
