BJP top brass from the state gathered at Guwahati’s Sarusajai stadium to hold a mass rally to celebrate the party’s victory in the Panchayat elections and lay down the party agenda.
Assam’s Chief Minister Sarbandanda Sonowal, popularly known as ‘Jatiya Nayak’, addressed the audience and stated that he is not at all bothered by the insults thrown his way by protestors of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) 2016 and added that it cannot erase his patriotism. “They can insult me, but they cannot erase my patriotism”, stated the Jatiya Nayak, with a twinkle in his eyes.
He cautioned the elected Panchayat members not to be lured towards greed and corruption and stated that the purpose of the Government is the development of the state.
“They said 1.9 crores people would come here, but when we questioned them on the sources for this number, their number decreased”, he said, referring to the estimated number of Bangladeshis who would come to Assam as per protestors’ allegations.
“Assamese people have been led to believe that Bangaldeshis would knock on everyone’s door, but that is entirely false. The people protesting the Bill are not protectors or well-wishers of the jati, Sonowal cautioned”, alleging that they are trying to mislead the people of Assam.
Sonowal also added that the Government’s priority is to develop Assam and that is why they are trying to develop educational infrastructure at the grassroots level. He also urged parents to ensure the proper education of their wards so that they can compete at the national and international levels.
"Narendra Modi has gifted us two benefits this New Year. Firstly, implementation of the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord as well as the ST status grant to six prominent communities of Assam," said the Chief Minister.
The CM also stated that implementation of the Clause 6 will ensure the protection of indigenous people’s right as well as ensure the protection of culture, language, literature and identity of Assam.
