Guwahati, October 12, 2018:

Hundreds of activists of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today took out a protest rally in Guwahati against the unabated price hike and the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. The rally led by peasant leader Akhil Gogoi started from the Ambari and culminated at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Hundreds of slogan-shouting protestors, carrying banners against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 marched through the busy thoroughfares of Guwahati, before submitting memorandum addressed to the prime minister to the Deputy Commissioner.

The agitators shouted slogans refusing to take the “burden of foreigners” and criticised the BJP-led government in the state for supporting the Centre’s attempt to amend the bill.

Talking to reporters, KMSS president Akhil Gogoi told that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power with the promise of checking price rise but miserably failed to do so. Prices of essential commodities have instead increased unabated since the BJP-led government came to power. WE will never accept the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and if Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), who were against it, does so, than the people of Assam will show them the way in the coming elections.
