At least three people were killed and another three injured when a car hit a truck parked on the roadside on Wednesday. The incident happened at 11 am at Burhapahar in Koliabor in Nagaon district. The injured were rushed to the Tezpur Medical College Hospital (TMCH).
The car bearing registration number AS02 T 4775 was reportedly going towards Jorhat. The deceased have been identified as Nazma Begum of Mariani, five-year-old Alisha Hazarika of Jagiroad and driver of the car Nayan Baishya who hailed from Nalbari.

A report released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has revealed that Assam has recorded 3,843 traffic accidents deaths in 2019, the highest in the northeast, followed by 271 people in Tripura and 176 in Meghalaya. More than 41 percent deaths in road accidents in Assam take place with two-wheelers due to overspeeding and dangerous or careless driving or over-taking.
The maximum casualties in Assam are from road accidents which caused 3,245 deaths. These traffic accidents comprise 8,055 road accidents, 591 railway accidents and 5 railway crossing accidents and caused 3245, 593 and 5 deaths respectively during 2019.
1,362 people have died due to two-wheeler accidents, out of the 3,245 fatalities in the road accidents in the state which is over 41 percent. About 682 and 285 people also died in the accidents while travelling in a car and by bus.
