The All Assam Students Union (AASU) registered a thumping victory in the Cotton University Students' Union (CUSU) election by winning 10 out of 18 posts. The results were declared late on Saturday.
Even as an independent candidate won the coveted president's post and Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS), the students' wing of peasant organization Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) secured seven posts, it was AASU which reigned supreme on the campus.
Independent candidate Brojen Phukan and Violina Deka of the AASU were elected as president and vice-president of the students' union, while Pranjal Kalita of SMSS won the post of CUSU general secretary.
However, the students of the premier college are appealing for
recounting as the victory margin for majority of the posts are
marginal.
