'Timber Mafia' try to run over Forest Officials in Sonitpur

Guwahati (Assam), Sept 1, 2018:

On Friday, some alleged ‘timber mafia’ tried to run over forest officials with a truck loaded with illegal timber in Sonitpur.

Forest officials informed that the incident took place last night while they were on a regular patrolling to check for illegal activities within the forest areas of the forest range. During this patrolling the forest officers noticed a that was suspected to be carrying illegal timber and just went the officials tried to intercept the truck, the truck’s driver tried to ran over them.

However, the forest officials managed to move out of the way of the truck. The truck being in a very high speed lost its control fell into a ditch.

The officials then managed to arrest the truck driver, Nipon Khaund but the others related to the incident are missing.

The officials are trying investigate the issue.
