In a most ridiculous and shocking development, one of the most prominent leaders of the ‘anti-CAB’ movement is apparently all set to join the BJP, the masterminds behind the Bill.
On Sunday, the All Assam Tai Ahom Student Union (AATASU) adviser Ashini Chetia tendered his resignation to the student body and it is being alleged that the student leader is all set not only to join the saffron party but also to contest elections on its behalf.
Chetia, who was often seen alongside KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi during the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill protests, belonged to one of the ‘70’ organizations who stood with the KMSS against the Bill.
But as per latest reports, Chetia held talks with CM Sarbananda Sonowal and also Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday and has apparently been assured of a ticket to contest the Sonari Assembly bye-election in case BJP candidate Tapan Gogoi wins the Jorhat Lok Sabha Constituency election. Chetia, meanwhile, has assured the BJP leadership that he will use his status and influence among the Ahom community to further strengthen the BJP in the region.
As per reports, another anti-CAB leader, Palash Changmai of the AJYCP, is also holding backdoor talks with the BJP.
