DIBRUGARH: A top doctor from the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Upper Assam's Dibrugarh district has been
30-year-old Dr. Sunmoni Bhuyan, the registrar of the surgical Unit of AMCH has been arrested by Dibrugarh Police for his alleged involvement in a rape case.
Shwetank Mishra, the district Superintendent of police told InsideNE that the accused was romantically involved with the victim.

"Actually, the girl said that she was tricked by the accused under the premise of marriage. She said that the sex was not consensual and was forced," he told us.
Mishra further added that the accused has said that his parents were vehemently opposed to his marrying her.
"In fact, he said that his parents had even threatened suicide if he married her," Mishra informed.
According to officials, the accused has been forwarded to judicial custody against Dibrugarh police station case no. 1247/2021 u/s 406/376/384 IPC.
