Total lockdown in Barak Valley from August 26

The Barak valley in Assam is likely to go under a total lockdown from August 26 to September 4 as its districts have witnessed a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases. The district administration is now waiting for the chief minister’s approval to clamp the lockdown. The district administration has asked the people to prepare themselves for the lockdown and stock essential commodities. The nature of the lockdown on what will remain open will be discussed within a day, said the district administration.

It may be mentioned that there have been 3500 active cases of COVID-19 in the three districts of the southern part of Assam. Several deaths have also been reported in the districts.
