Tragedy of Flood Continues Unabated in Assamassam

Guwahati, July 15, 2019:

The flood situation in Assam continues to get worse as the water level is rising at a speed of 2-3 cm per hour in Guwahati. Over 26 lakh people have been affected all over the state, and many have lost their source of livelihoods.

The Brahmaputra river in the state has also crossed danger mark on Monday.

As per the latest update, the water is flowing 1.5 cm above danger level and it is increasing 2-3 cm per hour.

The District Administration has intensified the rescue operation. While Deputy Commission, Kamrup (M), Biswajit Pegu informed that the Chandrapur and Sonapur Revenue circles have been most affected. In Chandrapur 22 villages have been affected while 24 in Sonapur.

The plight of the people cannot be measured in words as the people affected by the floods are spending their days and night under open sky settling on the roofs of the houses. The people lack drinking water, food, clothes, and other basic necessities.

Though the administration is trying to bring them to the rescue the people are not ready to leave the only house they belong. They have lost their livestock and whatever they belong. People are transporting with the boats made of banana trees.

It is to be mentioned that 10 people have died in Assam floods this year while incessant rains continue to pound the state. 28 districts in Assam have been affected by the heavy rain.

Over 26.5 lakh people have been affected in the flood situation that is worsening every hour.

Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi spoke to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and took stock of the flood situation in the state.
