After a day-long disruption, train services on the Guwahati-New Tinsukia-Dibrugarh and Guwahati-Barak Valley routes were resumed on Sunday following the repairing of a railway track.
Nineteen trains to Upper Assam and Barak Valley were cancelled on Saturday after 15 bogies of a goods train derailed between Panbai and Digaru. The site of the accident is 28 km from Guwahati and falls under Lumding Division of Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR).
Employees of the Railways worked on a war-footing for hours together since Saturday noon and cleared one of the two tracks in the wee hours of Sunday. According to NFR, the track cleared is being used for the movement of trains.
“The trains have started plying since 5 am although their movement could be delayed. No train on the routes was cancelled today (Sunday). The Up-line is being repaired,” NFR spokesman N Bhattacharya told InsideNE.
