Taking a cue from party leader Mamata Banerjee, Assam unit members of the Trinamool Congress on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest against the CAA-NRC-NPR at Sachal in Guwahati city.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC party supremo Mamata Banerjee, who has been one of the most vocal critics of CAA and NRC, has said, "I am your 'pehradar' (custodian), if anyone comes to take away your rights, he will have to do it over my dead body."
Bhabali Kalita, an Assam worker of the TMC said that the party is opposing the CAA as party supremo has been opposing the Act since it was a Bill. "We want the country's develeopmenyt. The BJP rode to power promising, and they should fulfill that, they should work for the people, they should check inflation, resolve the issue of unemployment. The divisive policy won't be accepted. This is not Gujarat; India is a secular country", she said.
"Modi, the divisive politics must be opposed. We don't want CAA. We are extending solidarity to didi as she has said that she is willing to die for the CAA. We are with her. Like Didi, who took to the streets to protest, our CM Sonowal should have done the same", she further added, taking jibes at the CM Sonowal for his alleged "silence" over the issue.
"If we cannot feed the people living in the house, how can we afford to feed guests?, Kalita further queried.

It may be mentioned that Banerjee is also trying to sppearhead the anti-CAA, NRC protest on the national level. Besides promising to give Rs 5 lakh to the families of the two men killed in the protests in Mangaluru, her party workers have also met protesters injured in clashes in Lucknow.
