Guwahati (Assam), 3 Aug 2018:

The high drama scripted by Trinamool Congress (TMC) surrounding publication of complete draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) continued to be played out four days later.

After being denied entry into Silchar by detaining the eight-member delegation of the TMC at Kumbhirgram Airport, three members of the delegation lodged police complaints at Kolkata alleging police highhandedness at Silchar and accused Assam Chief Minister of orchestrating the entire episode.

While TMC MLA Mohua Moitra lodged complaint at Alipur Police Station, Mamata Bala Thakur and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar lodged identical complaints at NSCBI Police Station.

All three were part of the delegation. The TMC delegation created a ruckus at Kumbhirgram Airport on Thursday afternoon after being not allowed to leave the airport.

One lady constable of Assam Police was injured in the fisticuffs. The delegation, who were on a two-day visit to Assam, were also barred from entering Guwahati.

The delegation, after staying for the night at the airport, left Silchar on Friday. Fearing breakdown of law and order due to their visit, Cachar district administration had imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC and deployed a huge contingent of security forces near the airport.
