GUWAHATI: Two days after losing his mother, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi today joined a road show campaigning for Gauhati East candidate Adib Phukan describing it as a call of duty to save the state’s identity.
Clad in the mourning loin attire, Gogoi accompanied Phukan and other party leaders in the campaign trail joined by thousands of party workers.
Talking to InsideNE, Gogoi said: “It is the call of duty at a time when the state’s identity as well as the socio-political aspect was gasping. The state has been subjected to unprecedented threat under a government that has failed in all fronts. The people are not with them anymore. They are looking for an alternative. They are with a regional force like us.”

“The people are against the ruling party because it has not only failed to deliver, but also pushed the state’s identity and culture to the brink of extinction. The state has been wronged and so, I am hopeful that people will support us this time. I am sure, the people of Gauhati East will definitely elect our candidate Adib Phukan with a huge margin,” Gogoi added.
Phukan is pitched against Siddhartha Bhattacharyya of BJP and Ashima Bordoloi of the Congress.
The road show started at Noonmati and traversed through Chandmari-RG Baruah Road-Ganeshguri and GS Road.
Apart from gauhati east, AJP has also pitched candidate in Manjit Mahanta from Dispur in Guwahati.
