Two persons died while over 20 others were reported missing when a ferry, carrying over 30 passengers, sank in the Brahmaputra in North Guwahati on Wednesday.
The mishap occurred after the ferry had hit a concrete pole of an ongoing water project. According to district authorities, about a dozen people were either rescued or they managed to swim ashore.
Talking to InsideNe, Kamrup (rural) Deputy Commissioner, Kamal Kumar Baishya, confirmed the deaths of two people including a girl. He said there were reports that another body was found somewhere.
It was learnt that the people missing included some students.
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response besides the Army were carrying out search operations
