DIBRUGARH: The ambitious Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of the governemnt has added another wing at the Airports Authority of India’s Dibrugarh Airport in Assam.

Domestic carrier Indigo has launched another flight to its schedule to Imphal under the RCS scheme– UDAN programme of the Government of India.

Indigo flight 6E 7948 now connects Kolkata and Imphal with Dibrugarh on a regular basis. The flight from Dibrugarh to Imphal will take around 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The inaugural ceremony was held in the presence of R. Awasthi, Airport Director (Dibrugarh Airport); Shri Gautam, Assistant Commandant (CISF) and other Airport Officials of AAI and Indigo with few first passengers.

The RCS- UDAN scheme has added wings to the existing travel experience, especially for first-time travelers.

In the midst of the Covid-19 advisory, there are currently a maximum of nine flights departing from Dibrugarh Airport, carrying roughly 1200 passengers each day.

"And we are hopeful that, once the restrictions are gone, the Airport will resume its pre-Covid level of air traffic development, allowing passengers to travel with greater ease, "he added.

Now Dibrugarh Airport is connected with four state capitals of North Eastern India--Guwahati, Agartala, Imphal, and Dimapur.

The flights under the RCS- UDAN scheme have connected various remote areas of North-East India and helped boost travel and trade.

It has also greatly cut travel time and improved convenience for travellers travelling between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and Manipur.

This is the third flight to depart from Dibrugarh Airport under the RCS-UDAN scheme.

The first flight connected Dibrugarh and Dimapur (now discontinued), while the second flight connected Dibrugarh and Agartala (currently operational on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday).
