As per reports, the body of ULFA (I) leader Jyotirmoy Asom has been recovered from the outfit’s headquarters at the Taga area of Myanmar where he was reportedly killed during an operation launched by the Burmese Army, Tatmadaw, on the first week of February. The ULFA (I) leader, who held a position of ‘Major’ with the outfit, hails from Titabor in Assam’s Jorhat district.
As per Myanmar Army reports, one ULFA (I) cadre was killed and another one was captured during the course of a gun battle between the insurgents and the Tatmadaw on February 2.
It is to be mentioned that the Burmese Army has been conducting operations to cleanse the country of Northeast insurgent groups such as ULFA (I), NSCN (K), NDFB, KLO etc.
The fallen cadre has reportedly been cremated with full honors by the ULFA (I) in Myanmar.
