A joint operation led by Tinsukia police and army jawans on Friday resulted in the nabbing of a United Liberation Front of Asom, Independent (ULFA-I) ultra in Ritu Kathalguri Tinsukia district of Assam.

At around 3:30 pm, the joint search team cordoned and searched an area whereby a militant, who identified himself as self-styled ULFA (I) Private Rituraj Asom alias Girindra Phukan, was nabbed. Rituraj, who is the son of Arun Phukan of Hukani, Makum, was immediately arrested.

The operation that was launched by local police, along with 210 Cobra Bn, 68 Bn with 23 Punjab Bn Army and 21 Para (SF), was based on specific intelligence about the presence of suspected ULFA (I) cadres in area of Ritu Kathalguri under Bordumsa Police Station, authorities informed.
An AK-81 assault rifle, two magazines, sixty 7.62 mm live rounds, and camouflage trousers were recovered from the ULFA militant.
Necessary legal formalities are being initiated.
