A joint team of Indian Army and Assam Police has busted a major recruitment racket of the United Liberation Front of Asom, Independent (or ULFA-I) in Tinsukia district of Assam.
As many as four ultras of the militant outfit and four minor recruit cadres from different places of Tinsukia district were nabbed during the course of a “marathon operation spread out over two days.
Many war like stores and other incriminating materials such as ULFA(I) flags as well as jungle shoes were recovered from the ULFA cadres.
It may be mentioned here that the operation was carried out in various locations of Tinsukia based on reliable input received from sources. Two hardcore cadres, Diganta Gogoi alias Diganta Asom and Khogen Moran, who were discovered to be carrying out recruitment activities by staying among the masses, were nabbed by the security forces. Further follow up led to apprehension of four cadre recruits all of whom are below 15 years.
Two more ULFA cadres -- Rana Handique alias Kokai and Abhijit Gogoi – were also arrested. The arrests have been made at various places like Makum, Digboi and Kakopothar. Two 7.65 mm Pistols, one .22 mm Pistol with live bullets, three ULFA(I) flags and a pair of jungle shoes were recovered from the apprehendees.
