Guwahati, February 8, 2020:

The Assam Government has been calling out to United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) or ULFA(I) chief Paresh Baruah to return to the state for a peace dialogue.

After continuous calls by Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP state president Ranjeet Dass has also sent out a message on behalf of the ruling government to Paresh Baruah. Dass said, “ULFA(I) Chief Paresh Baruah should return to Assam and start the peace dialogue with the government. He should come overground for the progress of the Assamese community as a whole.”

While Dass urged the chief for peace talks, he also clearly mentioned that Baruah should keep aside the demand of sovereign state and sit with the government for peace. Baruah had earlier cited that peace talks would be possible if the centre agrees to the precondition of a “sovereign Assam”.

It may be mentioned here that the leaders of Assam have been calling out to Baruah from various public platforms. Post the signing of the historic Bodo Peace Accord between the leaders of the four factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and the central government, the leaders have expressed settlement with the ULFA(I).
