Guwahati (Assam), September 18, 2018:

All un-electrified BG railway tracks in the entire Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) will be electrified very soon.

The NFR in a press statement said, “Consequent upon the approval given by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) during its meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, all previously sanctioned work of electrification of railway track has got the required thrust. At present Indian Railway has about 13675 kms of un-electrified BG railway tracks. Out of the total, 2536 km falls under NF Railway”.

The statement added that presently the only electrified portion of NFR is between Katihar and Malda Court stations via Kumedpur (101 kms). Electrification work of the balance portion of un-electrified track has been segregated into different segments and targeted for completion in a phased manner.

PJ Sharma, Chief Public Relations officer, NF Railways, informed that the work has been distributed amongst two agencies which are Centre for Railway Electrification (CORE) and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL).

He added that while CORE has been doing the work from Katihar to Raninagar Jalpaiguri (267 kms), the RVNL has been entrusted for completing the Raninagar Jalpaiguri to Guwahati via Rangiya portion (382 kms).

New Bongaigaon to Kamakhya via Goalpara (175 kms) and Guwahati to Dibrugarh via Lumding (661 kms) is being implemented by CORE. Contracts have already been awarded and work is in various stages of progress in all the above portions. Lumding to Badarpur (172 kms), Badarpur to Karimgang – Agartala – Sabroom - Akhaura including all branch lines to Silchar, Jiribam, Bhairabi, Dullabcherra, Mahishasan etc (590 kms) have also been sanctioned and will be implemented by CORE.
