Senior advocate, Upamanyu Hazarika on Friday announced that he will contest the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Guwahati constituency and put forward three demands to the Government.
Upamanya Hazarika has made the following demands: Reservation of land, employment, trade license, seats in higher education for residents of Assam and their progeny on the basis of 1951; re-verification of NRC and no further burden of foreigners through Citizenship Amendment Bill or any such instrument.
Hazarika added that the Government’s apathy and negligence towards the interest of the indigenous people of Assam clearly reveal their stance. He further added that the only concern of the government now is winning the upcoming elections even if it’s by putting the identity of the indigenous at stake.
“We will now enter into electoral politics and fight for the cause of our people", he added.
